Christmas tree collection in Montréal
Enter your address to see whether your sector publishes a natural Christmas tree collection date, and how to prepare the tree.
Next January's dates aren't published yet: the City only loads them into Info-Collectes just before Christmas. Check back in mid-December — meanwhile, here's how to prepare your tree.
Natural trees are collected in January, stripped of every decoration, bag and stand. The date is the hard part: the City publishes the rules year-round but states plainly that “collection dates for this address are available in Info-Collectes just before Christmas”, and the borough pages that announce them are taken down once the season ends.
To be clear about what this page can do: only a few territories put their dates in the open dataset, and only inside the green-waste collection's exception text. The table below shows exactly which. Everywhere else the honest answer is “not published yet” — and the counts above the table say so without rounding up.
- Boroughs whose dates are known
- 4 of 19
- Green-waste sectors publishing a tree-collection date
- 17 of 93
What the dataset says about trees
By borough. Dates come from the green-waste collection's exception text, topped up by hand for boroughs that aren't in it. Boroughs not listed don't publish their dates in the open data.

Frequently asked questions
- When is Christmas tree collection?
- In January, on one or two specific days that vary by sector. The City only loads those dates into Info-Collectes shortly before Christmas, so they aren't known for the rest of the year.
- How should I prepare my tree?
- Strip it of every decoration, garland, bag and wrapper, and take it off its stand. A decorated or bagged tree will not be collected.
- What if I missed the collection?
- Once the collection period is over, the tree has to be taken to an écocentre. It shouldn't be left at the curb outside the announced days.
- Are artificial trees collected?
- No. The collection is for natural trees, which are turned into wood chips. An artificial tree in good condition can be donated; otherwise it follows the bulky-item rules.
